Study
Notes to self I still forget. Here has things I follow that I don’t need to write here.
Proven methods for studying
- Spaced repetition self-testing (I use Anki).
- Interleaving: switching between subjects is more effective than studying one subject straight.
- Study intervals with breaks every 25ish minutes is best. (I use Goodtime pomodoro timer.)
burnout
SxS
- frequent procrastination: interest/motivation loss, difficulty focusing
- sleep issues, frequent illness
- declining performance
management
- perfection isn’t always possible
- celebrate small wins and progress along the way. Don’t wait until everything is done to acknowledge your efforts.
- study schedule relieves anxiety (I did something today)
- sleep is non-negotiable. 7-9 hours. You’re useless without it. Everything you do is useless without it.
- quality over quantity. Better to be efficient and understand deeply than cram for hours without much progress.
- exercise. Of course. See the section below.
- mindfulness AKA metacognition, humility, and grounding
Stress relief
-
Stress is your friend unless you make it otherwise.
- It’s only bad if you fight it. (Stressing about being stressed doesn’t help. At all.)
-
Smile. Even faking it tricks your brain into feeling better.
-
Laugh. Find something funny even if you don’t feel like it. It does trick you into feeling better.
-
Exercise makes endorphins that make you feel better. Also tires me out from being able to be wound up.
-
Eat well. Omega-3 reduces stress/depression, plus boosts mental function.
-
Caffeine will just make you crash harder. Law of conservation: what you take you must give back at some point.
-
Socialize. Doesn’t have to be big. Talk to someone or be around others. Hell even a Vtuber and their community helps. Loneliness (not positive solitude) is compared to smoking.
-
Breathing exercises (or mindful breathing). There’s a reason meditation and anime make it to be a big deal. It really makes a difference.
-
Personally: change scenery. You aren’t Shamu the whale. The breeze changes you.
